GS1 standards in action

Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) uniquely identify products. Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCCs) identify logistic units (tubs, styrofoam containers, etc). This information is embedded into a barcode (such as GS1-128 barcodes for case-level identification), which can also hold extended product data, such as batch/lot number, allowing you to identify products and containers, wherever they are in the supply chain.
