GS1 standards in action

A Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) combined with Batch/Lot Number uniquely identifies a product. This information can be embedded into a barcode, which can also hold extended product data, such as expiry date or weight enabling the identification and tracking of products and cases, wherever they are in the supply chain.
